Hydroscand Design and Test Center (HDTC)
All our hoses and fluid connectors are subject to rigorous testing in our state of the art test laboratory in Stockholm, Sweden. As a customer, you can always feel safe when buying a product from Hydroscand.
In our own internal test laboratory, we have combined 50 years of industry experience with top modern testing facilities. Before a new product reaches the market, it must pass a series of tough product tests to ensure the integrity and performance of our products.Â
Product development and construction
At Hydroscand, we have a fast production chain where we work closely with our customers and suppliers. This means that our products reach the market quickly.Â
We always strive to optimize the connection between hose and hose coupling. The engineering team at HDTC therefore continuously develops and constructs products in the 3D-cad system SolidWorks.
Hose testing
Flex/impulse and impulse
Lifetime testing is performed in one of HDTC's large rigs where up to twelve hoses can be tested simultaneously. This test is used to simulate an accelerated lifetime of a hose assembly. We perform tests in accordance with ISO 6803 (pulse), ISO 8032 (flex-impulse) or according to customer requirements. Â
A standard test includes between 150,000 and 1,000,000 impulse cycles with a pressure up to 730 bar and an oil temperature up to 150 °C. The testing procedure is very tough, but a hose assembly must handle much more than normal operation.Â
Leakage and burst test
Leakage and burst tests are performed to ensure sufficient strength in the hose, ferrule and fitting. The test equipment can also measure the elongation under pressure. We perform tests up to 4,000 bar in accordance with ISO 1402.Â
Corrosion testing
Corrosion can result in irreversible damage to materials, fluid components, equipment, machinery and pipelines. Such losses are not only expensive to repair, but subsequent equipment failure could result in production downtime, health and safety risks and reputational damage.
HDTC has a climate chamber where we ensure that the corrosion protection meets our quality demands and our customers’ expectations. The test is as tough on hose fittings as the impulse test is on hoses.Â
In this accelerated lifetime testing, the top coating is generally tested for four weeks in a cyclic test where dry and wet periods are alternated and an acidified 1% salt solution is applied regularly.
HDTC performs tests in accordance with ISO 9227: NSS Neutral salt spray test. Our requirement today is 500 h for base metal corrosion, but we always test up to 750 h as that is our goal.
Component testing
To achieve a leak-free system requires that all hoses and fluid components are of high quality. HDTC has special equipment for testing other characteristics such as stiffness, surface finish and tightening torque. For flexural strength testing of hoses, HDTC has developed its own machine that provides a way to classify hoses based on bending properties.Â
